Last Tuesday, the 21st, I had the pleasure of attending a Seattle Symphony Orchestra performance for my 21st birthday (I forgive you all for forgetting about it and not showering me with gold). "What's this?" you ask. "Why is this brash American youth not enjoying the evening of his 21st birthday in a proper bar or casino? Surely he must be ill!" Well, the answer to that is a) most of my friends are younger than me, so I'd be spending it there alone (ultra-sadface), and b) because PLAY! A Videogame Symphony was in town! I bought tickets for a small group of friends as soon as I heard about it, and then last Tuesday...it happened. It just happened that Darren, webmaster of The Shinesparkers and close friend of us at Metroid Headquarters had just finished interviewing the producer and composer for PLAY! about the new Metroid themed piece that would be premiering at...well, where else? Seattle! So, I present to you the first ever performance of PLAY! A Videogame Symphony's Metroid suite! |

Actually, they premiered their Zelda orchestration this year too. If they had written it any year in the past it wouldn't have been even close to the same piece, since it had the main theme from the Spirit Tracks in it, which was awesome. It also had a brass-heavy version of Dragon Roost Island, which blew me away. The people behind PLAY! are actually the same people who are going to be doing the big Zelda symphony tour Nintendo talked about at E3, and I'm really excited to hear that after hearing what they did with Zelda here. |

| Has it really taken PLAY! this long to get around to Metroid? Yet they (and every other orchestra) has time to do the same Zelda orchestration over and over for the last 10 years. =P |
