If you take a look at Metroid.jp's website, there is a banner at the bottom in English that says "Another Side Story -coming soon-", and a Japanese subtitle that reads, when translated, "Follow the history of Metroid from the viewpoint of the Space Pirates". One can only speculate at the moment, but this may indicate that a new Metroid game may be in the works from the perspective of the Space Pirates.
